Pfeifendepot – 125 Jahre Jubiläumspfeife – Nr. 013 von 125 – by Ken Dederichs, Kenpipes
Wir sind stolz darauf auch zwei Pfeifen von Ken Dederichs in unserem Jubiläumsprogramm präsentieren zu können. Ken wird im kommenden Jahr sein 20-jähriges Jubiläum als Pfeifenmacher feiern, da er nach eigener Aussage 2005 mit dem Pfeifenbau als Hobby begonnen hat. Er wurde in Japan geboren, hat aber seit 2007 seinen Lebensmittelpunkt in Deutschland gefunden. Seit 2008 widmet sich der ausgebildete Architekt, ausschließlich dem Pfeifenbau. Er ist somit „unser“ japanischer Pfeifenmacher vom Dienst und ein bisschen eröffnet er uns mit seinen Pfeifen auch immer ein Fenster zu dieser faszinierenden Kultur.
Die zweite Pfeife von Ken Dederichs, eine glatt polierte Freehand (freie Form), ist kräftig auf Kontrast gebeizt, sodass die hellen Holzteile richtig herausleuchten. Der Maserungsverlauf ist straight, Kopfrand und Boden wurden auf ein Maximum an Vogelaugenmaserung getrimmt – sicherlich ein Augenschmaus. Die Buchsbaumapplikation ist holmseitig mit einer feinen Ebonitplatte abgeschlossen, zum Mundstück hin bauchig gewölbt. Applikation und Mundstück „deckeln“ sich und unterteilen die Linienführung dabei mit vertikalen Akzenten. Ken Dederichs hat längst zu seinem ganz eigenen Stil gefunden, der auch in dieser Pfeife wunderbar zum Ausdruck kommt.

Pfeifendepot – 125th anniversary pipe – No. 013 of 125 – by Ken Dederichs, Kenpipes
We are proud to be able to present two pipes by Ken Dederichs in our anniversary programme. Ken will be celebrating his 20th anniversary as a pipe maker next year, as he himself says that he started making pipes as a hobby in 2005. He was born in Japan, but has lived in Germany since 2007. Since 2008, the trained architect has devoted himself exclusively to pipe making. He is therefore ‘our’ Japanese pipe maker on duty and with his pipes he always opens a window to this fascinating culture for us.
The second pipe by Ken Dederichs, a smoothly polished freehand (free form), is stained to create a strong contrast so that the light-coloured wood parts really stand out. The grain is straight, the bowl rim and bottom have been trimmed to maximise the bird’s eye grain – certainly a feast for the eyes. The boxwood application is topped with a fine ebonite plate on the shank side and curved towards the mouthpiece. The application and mouthpiece ‘cover’ each other and divide the lines with vertical accents. Ken Dederichs has long since found his very own style, which is also wonderfully expressed in this pipe.
