Plasencia

Eduardo Plasencia verlässt im Jahr 1865 die Kanarischen Inseln und beginnt in Kuba Tabak anzubauen. Im Jahre 1963 flieht die Familie Plasencia vor dem Castro Regime und findet in Nicaragua ihre neue Heimat. Doch bereits im Jahr 1978 sind es die Sandinisten, die Plasencia erneut zur Flucht zwingen. Die Familie immigriert anschließend nach Honduras. Neben dem Anbau von Rohtabak entwickelt sich die Zigarrenproduktion zum zweiten Standbein des Familienunternehmens. Mit dem Ende des Bürgerkrieges kehrt die Familie nach Nicaragua zurück. Mit rund 6000 Mitarbeitern in vier Fabriken und acht Plantagen werden jährlich knapp 40 Millionen Zigarren produziert. Auch wegen dieser Widerstände und Rückschläge, die die Plasencias erleiden mussten, ist die Familie zum größten Rohtabak-Hersteller der Welt geworden.

Eduardo Plasencia left the Canary Islands in 1865 and began growing tobacco in Cuba. In 1963, the Plasencia family fled the Castro regime and found a new home in Nicaragua. But by 1978, it was the Sandinistas who forced Plasencia to flee once again. The family then immigrated to Honduras. In addition to growing raw tobacco, cigar production became the second pillar of the family business. With the end of the civil war, the family returned to Nicaragua. With around 6,000 employees in four factories and eight plantations, nearly 40 million cigars are produced annually. It is also because of these obstacles and setbacks that the Plasencias had to endure that the family has become the largest raw tobacco producer in the world.
