Pfeifendepot – 125 Jahre Jubiläumspfeife – Nr. 022 von 125 – by Uwe Jopp
Auch in puncto Sandstrahlungen ist Uwe Jopp top. Das merkt man gleich, wenn man diese hübsche Bent in die Hand nimmt. Die Strahlungen sind eher zart und flach, jedoch gleichzeitig klar definiert, mit schönem Schattenwurf, und auch haptisch sehr angenehm. Fokussieren wir auf das Shape, sehen wir wieder (vgl. Jubiläumspfeife 24) eine Apple / Brandy – Kombination, die den 9mm Filterraum geschickt in einem ovalen Holm mit abgeflachten Seiten verbirgt – und somit im Profil schön flach wirken lässt. Der Kopfrand ist gekehlt, was der Pfeife gleich eine ganz andere Dynamik gibt und den Schwung des Gesamtbogens unterstreicht. Erst auf den zweiten Blick wird man gewahr, dass der nach oben hin fein zulaufende Kopfrand von Uwe Jopp noch zusätzlich angephast wurde, was ihn noch schnittiger erscheinen lässt. Und auf den dritten Blick bemerkt man dann, dass diese feine Linie von der Sandstrahlung ausgespart und poliert wurde. Das sind die kleinen Details, die nicht nur schön sind, sondern auch viel Mühe machen und müheloses technisches Können voraussetzen. Auch hier ein erstklassiges Ebonitmundstück mit breitem Biss, dass den Schwung der Pfeife aufnimmt und vollendet.

Uwe Jopp is also top-notch when it comes to sandblasting. You notice this as soon as you pick up this beautiful Bent. The sandblasting is rather delicate and flat, but at the same time clearly defined, with beautiful shadowing, and also very pleasant to touch. If we focus on the shape, we see again (cf. Jubiläumspfeife 24) an Apple / Brandy combination, which cleverly conceals the 9mm filter chamber in an oval stem with flattened sides – and thus makes it look nice and flat in profile. The bowl edge is fluted, which gives the pipe a completely different dynamic and emphasizes the sweep of the overall bow. Only at second glance do you notice that the finely tapered bowl rim has been additionally chamfered by Uwe Jopp, which makes it appear even sleeker. And at third glance, you notice that this fine line has been omitted from the sandblasting process and carefully been polished. These are the small details that are not only beautiful, but also require a lot of effort and effortless technical skill. Here, too, a first-class ebonite mouthpiece with a broad bit that picks up and completes the whole swing of the pipe.
